Houston Astros beat Boston Red Sox 5-4

Diaz's Homer Lifts Astros

Yainer Diaz's tiebreaking solo homer with one out in the ninth inning lifted the Houston Astros to a 5-4 win over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.

Alex Bregman homered for the second straight game, hitting a three-run homer to key a five-run fifth inning for the Astros, who have won six of their last eight.

Yordan Alvarez followed with his third homer in two games, a solo shot off Red Sox starter Nick Pivetta, to give Houston a 4-0 lead.

Red Sox Fight Back

The Red Sox chipped away against Astros starter Lance McCullers Jr., scoring twice in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game.

Rafael Devers singled in the first run of the fifth, and Xander Bogaerts doubled in another. In the sixth, Devers tied the game with a sacrifice fly, and Bogaerts gave Boston the lead with an RBI single.

Astros Win in Ninth

But the Astros came back in the ninth against Red Sox closer Tanner Houck. Jose Altuve led off with a single and stole second base. After a groundout, Diaz hit a 1-2 fastball over the right-field wall for his third homer of the season.

Ryan Pressly worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his 21st save of the season.
