Gabrielle Thomas: American Track and Field Star
Early Life and Career
Gabrielle Lisa Thomas was born on December 7, 1996, in Atlanta, Georgia. She began her track and field career at Harvard University, where she earned multiple NCAA championships and set numerous records.
Olympic Success
Thomas made her Olympic debut at the 2020 Tokyo Games, where she won the bronze medal in the 200-meter sprint and helped the United States team win silver in the 4x100-meter relay.
In the 200-meter final, Thomas finished in a time of 21.87 seconds, just behind Jamaica's Elaine Thompson-Herah and Christine Mboma of Namibia. Her bronze medal performance made her the first American woman to medal in the 200 meters at the Olympics since Marion Jones in 2000.
Continuing Success
Following her Olympic success, Thomas continued to dominate on the track. In 2022, she won the women's 200 meters at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. She is currently ranked as the world's number one in the 200 meters and is a strong contender for a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
