June 21, 2024, Los Angeles
WEB World Aquatics has made major announcements regarding the swimming venue for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. As part of updates to the LA28 venue masterplan, significant changes have been proposed.
Originally planned to be held at the University of Southern California's Uytengsu Aquatics Center, the swimming competition will now take place at the state-of-the-art Inglewood Sports Forum.
The Forum, which hosted gymnastics and basketball during the 1984 Olympics, will undergo renovations to meet the standards required for the 2028 Games. These upgrades will include the installation of an Olympic-sized pool, as well as the necessary infrastructure for timing, scoring, and broadcasting.
The move to the Inglewood Sports Forum is expected to enhance the athlete experience and provide a more spectator-friendly environment. The venue's proximity to major transportation hubs and neighboring amenities will also improve accessibility and convenience for fans and athletes alike.
The updates to the venue masterplan are a testament to the LA28 organizing committee's commitment to delivering a world-class Olympic experience. These changes will ensure that the 2028 Games are remembered as a memorable and successful event, both for athletes and spectators.
